Reporter for the Columbia Missourian

May 2012 — July 2012

This experience was the “lab” portion of a journalism class, J4450. Although this course was taken for a grade, students were expected to be professionals. The city-wide paper is operated by student reporters. During the summer session of this class, there are only three beats: General Assignment, Sports, and Vox (the bi-weekly magazine).

  • Beat: General Assignment. Grade received: A. Number of clips: 32.
  • Reporting stories assigned and finding stories to pitch.
  • Completing one multimedia project with another student.
  • Covering a variety of stories, such as but not limited to city meetings, crime reports and features.

Cooperative Media Group, University of Missouri Extension
